I joked to a girlfriend today, saying I was finding it very expensive volunteering – what with all of the fund raising expectations, not to mention the time commitments. After reading this, I’m not finding it quite so funny. I guess it’s all about finding the right balance.

Thanks Elaine. I don’t know about you but I prefer volunteer work that involves relatively unskilled labour because it’s different and provides a great mental break from writing. Oftentimes that mental break ends up providing me with the creative breakthrough I needed. This eureka moment brought to you by setting up chairs for a charity dinner. Or something like that.

Kind words David. Thank you. I have always wondered at the cultural modesty of New Brunswickers, it does not serve this small province well on the national and international stage. The Maritimes in general long ago ceded the stage to others who tell a far different story about this region – one of hands held out for assistance and a resistance to change. The actual story is far more complex. Time to tell it.

Lisa, brilliantly told. It reinforces how we are all interconnected and the success (or failure) of one is the success (or failure) of us all.
Now, let’s see if the ICF is inspired by our story and elevates Saint John from Top 7 to the world’s #1 most intelligent Community. But whether they do or don’t, our story is still something all New Brunswickers can and should celebrate!
